Temporary Resident Visa
What is TRV?
Temporary Resident Visa
The immigration authorities will affix a visitor visa, commonly known as a temporary resident visa, to your passport. It demonstrates that you are eligible to enter Canada. An individual’s passport must have a TRV, an official counterfoil document issued by a visa office, to prove they have fulfilled the requirements for admission to Canada as a temporary resident. A TRV does not ensure entrance into Canada.
Who can apply?
You can apply for a TRV from inside Canada if you meet all the conditions below:
- you’re already in Canada
you hold a valid study or work permit - you want to leave and return to Canada in the near future
- your existing visa is expired or was valid for only one entry
You should apply at least 2 months before you plan to leave Canada.
